Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Chandra Bhan Yadav, Member of Distt. Office, Hindu Yuva Vahini, Ghonda Vs State of Uttar Pradesh dated 18/10/2019 regarding Bhabhnan Sugar Mill and Distillery at Ghonda, Uttar Pradesh and Bhabhnan Chemical Mill at Faizabad causing pollution by discharging effluents and not managing fly ash.

A report filed by the District Magistrates Ghonda and Faizabad and the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) informed the Tribunal that colour of water in the Mehragaura pond adjacent to the ETP of the sugar mill and the chemical division was found to be black. The unit has been directed not to discharge any effluent in the pond and to treat the effluents to the irrigation standards.

The Tribunal directed further remedial action, including recovery of compensation for polluting the water body.
