  • 06/11/2019

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Charudatt Koli Vs M/s Sea Lord Containers Ltd. dated 06/11/2019 regarding remedial steps to be taken for control of air pollution in the outskirts of Mumbai, in and around villages Ambapada and Mahul.

The major contributor to the air pollution are said to be the logistic services, storing oil, gas and chemical items, as well as oil companies releasing emissions. The status report filed by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) mentioned that the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) had issued directions under Water Act 1974 and Air Act 1981 to Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited for not completing the target work in stipulated time as per the approved action plan.

The CPCB has sought extension of six months to submit its final report. And that NEERI needs time to conduct the required study. The Tribunal directs the study to be conducted expeditiously as a "leisurely approach" would affect the health of the people. The CPCB has been directed to complete its study within three months.
