Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Manoj Mishra Vs Union of India & Others dated 22/01/2020 regarding rejuvenation of River Yamuna.

Yamuna Monitoring Committee (YMC) has suggested entrusting the functions of management of all the drains in Delhi to a single agency, for that the NGT has asked for a response from the Chief Secretary, Delhi, DDA, DSIIDC, PWD, Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Cantonment Board, NDMC, South, East and North Delhi Municipal Corporations before February 18, 2020.

YMC in its report to the Tribunal has stated that survey of drains was required to ascertain the places where phyto/bio remediation is viable for which a survey team may complete the exercise within one month. In the second phase, the work may have to be assigned. CPCB has been asked to furnish a report mentioning atleast ten generic and representative models of phyto-remediation /bio-remediation which are techno-economically feasible and can be implemented after customization to the YMC and the YMC may include the report with its comments in its report to be submitted to the Tribunal.

With respect to direct untreated discharge of sewage into river Yamuna at Faridabad, Tribunal directed that remedial action be taken by Haryana and the same overseen by the Committee headed by Justice Pritam Pal Singh dealing with the issue of abatement of pollution of river Ghaggar and solid waste management in Haryana. A report should also be furnished by the Chief Secretary, Haryana.
