Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding illegal extraction of groundwater in Amritsar, Punjab, 14/02/2020
Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Jagtar Singh Vs State of Punjab & Others dated 14/02/2020 regarding absence of adequate safeguards for preventing extraction of ground water for commercial purposes, including construction of buildings, in violation of regulatory regime laid down or expected to be laid down by the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA).
According to the applicant, illegal extraction of ground is taking place at large scale without any safeguards.
The NGT directed the Punjab State PCB, CGWA and the District Magistrate, Amritsar to submit a report on the matter within one month.
