Question raised in Rajya Sabha on rise of infant mortality rate in India, 03/03/2020. As per Sample Registration System Report released in May, 2019, Infant Mortality Rate is 33 per 1,000 live births in 2017 in comparison to global average of 30 per 1,000 live births in 2017 as per UN Inter-agency Group for Child Mortality Estimation report. In order to address Infant mortality, the Government of India is supporting all States/UTs under National Health Mission in implementation of Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent health and Nutrition (RMNCAH+N) strategy. The Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) in the country has shown significant and consistent decline since the inception of National Health Mission due to diligent implementation of the schemes. Therefore, any study in this regard is not deemed necessary.
