Report on illegal extraction of laterite stones in Bicholim taluka, Goa
Report filed by the Goa State Pollution Control Board regarding illegal extraction of laterite stones in Bicholim taluka, Goa. Site inspection was done to verify the present status of laterite stone quarries in Curchirem and Ona village.
Inspection of the laterite stone quarries at Curchirem village revealed that the qurries were in operation recently. There was evidence of fresh stones being cut and also vehicle marks within the quarry. The other laterite stone quarry at Curchirem village was not in operation and was found partially filled with rain water. The roadway towards the extraction of laterite stone quarries at Ona village was not accessible. A representative of the mamlatdar/tahsildar, Bicholim said that the site was not in operation. Thus, one of the stone quarry in village Curchirem was operating without consent of the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB).
