Report by DPCC on illegal extraction of ground water, Sangam Vihar, Delhi, 29/04/2020
Additional action taken report on behalf of Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) dated April 29, 2020 regarding supply of ground water by tankers by Babudin Khan at Sangam Vihar, Delhi.
The NGT vide order of August 22, 2019 had directed the DPCC and the Delhi Jal Board to furnish a factual and action taken report in the matter. The DPCC on November 5, 2019 filed a report which stated that borewell was found in the premises but was non-operational and that it told to them that the water was not used for any commercial purpose. The DPCC had imposed environmental damages compensation of Rs. 5,00,000/- for causing damage to the environment against Babudin Khan.
The DPCC informed the court that adequate remedial action was taken on November 7, 2019. However, the complainant said that illegal extraction of ground water was still taking place. On December 26, 2019 the borewell was sealed to ensure that no extraction of ground water for any purpose takes place. The report said that Babudin Khan had deposited Rs. 5,00,000 to DPCC through Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Kalkaji).
