Report on use of sewage treated water for horticulture purposes in parks, Delhi, 01/12/2020

Joint inspection report by the Central Pollution Control Board and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee as per the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order of September 7, 2020 in the matter of Rear Admiral A P Revi Vs Delhi Jal Board & Others.

The NGT had directed a joint committee of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to look into the matter of groundwater being used for gardening in public parks by the DDA and the South Delhi Municipal Corporation, instead of sewage treated water.

During inspection by the committee on November 3, 2020 it was found that treated effluent of STP at Vasant Kunj was being utilised for horticulture purpose by the Delhi Development Authority and South Delhi Municipal Corporation. Vasant Kunj sewage treatment plant of Delhi Jal Board was found operational. DDA and SDMC had laid down necessary infrastructure for supply of treated water from Vasant Kunj STP to B & C Block, Vasant Kunj. The SDMC had constructed a UGR tank of 1,08,000 litre capacity for supplying treated water in 30 parks of B & C block, Vasant Kunj. The Joint inspection report dated December 1, 2020 was uploaded to the NGT site on December 15, 2020.
