Disaster risk reduction and the Caribbean private sector: the role of the telecommunications sector in the context of COVID-19
The aim of this exploratory paper is to provide some critical perspectives and insights on the role of the private sector in disaster risk reduction, in particular with regards to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the recovery process. The Caribbean countries of the Dominican Republic, Saint Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago have been selected for this paper, which allows for some comparison given the differential impact of the pandemic on the public health of the populations, in addition to its impact on socio-economic and industrial capabilities. The country selection also takes into account the different sizes of these countries’ economies and variables like location, demographics, as well as geographic and population size.
