Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding STP unit at Narora, district Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, 05/02/2021
Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Residents of Village Nodai Wagar, P.S. Naraura, Bulandshahar Vs State of Uttar Pradesh dated 05/02/2021 regarding STP unit at Narora, district Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh discharging untreated waste water in river Ganga.
The report by the Oversight Committee dated July 13, 2020 filed before the NGT stated that untreated sewage was being discharged into river Ganga and drains were choked, resulting in the overflow of untreated sewage. Further, the Jal Nigam had failed to perform its responsibility.
In response, the NGT in its order of July 30, 2020 directed the Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam to perform its responsibility and ordered that the work of sewer connectivity to households be completed expeditiously.
A further report filed by the Oversight Committee on January 22, 2021 informed the NGT that currently no untreated sewage was being discharged and the total quanity of sewage generated (2.5 MLD) was being treated at the STP. The treated effluent was then discharged into Dhak Nagla irrigation canal. Also, the issue of sewer house connection of 4300 households was also addressed with.
The NGT, taking into consideration the Oversight Committee report disposed of the application with the direction to the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board to ascertain the values of the treated water, in terms of fecal coliform.
