The existing STP in Gavier was functional and operational, while the STP in Bhatar and Singanpore was under construction. The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) had already remediated the legacy waste accumulated at Khajod disposal site and the work for bio mining of waste  overflowing from sanitary landfill cell including old dump site at Bhatar with estimated 25 lakhs metric tonnes of waste has been started at the cost of Rs. 103 crores. None of the SMC waste site falls in the catchment area of river Tapi.

The SMC had taken a series of steps to prevent unauthorized solid waste dumping in river Tapi. Fabricated nets have been fixed on all the bridges across Tapi river within the municipal limits to prevent solid waste dumping in river Tapi. Wire nets/barricading on tributaries leading to river Tapi to prevent solid waste entering from tributaries meeting river Tapi and cleaning was being done.
