Reply of the Minor Irrigation Department regarding laying of a pipeline along Varthur lake and dumping of C&D debris on the lake bed, Karnataka, 11/08/2020
Reply of the Minor Irrigation Department in the matter of Court on its own motion Vs State of Karnataka & Others dated 11/08/2020. The matter related to allegation of laying of a pipeline along the periphery of Varthur lake by the Minor Irrigation Department and dumping of thousands of cubic meters of C&D debris on the Varthur lake bed.
The Minor Irrigation & Groundwater Development Department had taken up execution of K&C valley lifting of 440 MLD secondary treated sewage water from the Bellandur and K&C valley STPs to Narasapura pond onwards to fill 126 tanks in Kolar district and Chintamani taluk which are drought areas in Chikkaballapura district in Karnataka. The pipeline alignment for K & C valley lift irrigation scheme is approved, along the periphery of Varthur lake. Further, the C&D debris had been removed, the report stated.
