CPCB report on illegal stone crushers and mines in Sahebganj district, Jharkhand, 10/03/2021

Compliance report by the Central Pollution Control Board in the matter of Syed Arshad Nasar Vs Union of India with Ramchandra Chaurasia Vs State of Jharkhand in compliance to the National Green Tribunal order September 23, 2020.

The matter dealt with stone crusher and mining units in Sahebganj district, Jharkhand. The NGT had directed the constitution of a Joint Committee for deciding on the restoration plan and how to execute it.

The inspection of all the stone mines and stone crushers in Sahebganj has been carried out by the District Mining Task Force (DMTF). Preliminary report consisting of the source profiling and air quality analysis has been submitted by the Centre for Environment and Energy Development (CEED), Delhi.

Inventorization of the activities along with compliance verification with respect to EC and CTO of individual units has been provided by Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board (JSPCB). The DMTF has taken action against the non-compliant stone mines and crushers which included lodging of FIR, sealing of illegal mines, cancellation of CTO of illegal mines and others.

A draft guideline for abatement and control of pollution from stone crusher has been prepared and shall be implemented as per the finding from site visits, the CPCB report of March 10, 2021 said.
