Order of the Gauhati High Court in the matter of Lawyers Association, Guwahati Vs The State of Assam & Others dated 19/05/2021. The matter deals with measures taken by the Assam government to deal with COVID-19 pandemic situation.

The counsel, representing the government of Assam informed the HC that as of now registration for COVID-19 vaccination was being done only for persons above 45 years of age and not for persons between 18 to 44 years of age due to paucity of vaccines.

With respect to patients suffering from other serious ailments such as cancer and also suffering from COVID-19, the state government said that even a cancer patient suffering from COVID-19 would be getting the required treatment in the hospitals concerned. With regard to the complaint of patients suffering from COVID-19, who have medical insurance but still not being admitted in private hospitals unless they deposit money in advance, it was mentioned that the Insurance Regulatory & Development Authority of India had passed an order on March 4, 2020 to the effect that such persons who have a medical insurance will not be denied admission in private hospitals if they seek admission in such hospitals when they are suffering from COVID-19.
