Order of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana at Chandigarh in the matter of Adani Wilmar Limited Vs State of Punjab & Others dated 18/06/2021.

An application was filed by Adani Wilmar in the court for the issuance of a writ in the nature of a mandamus for a direction to the state authorities to ensure that free movement of food grains etc is not hindered from and to its facility at Ferozepur, Punjab due to farmers agitation.

The counsel appearing for the state informed the court that the state was also open to the idea of involving some senior officials to find a way forward, since they were conscious of the fact that any further delay would result in damaging the food drains which were lying stored in the facility of the Adani Wilmar.

The High Court of Punjab and Haryana directed the constitution of a committee to be headed by the Principal Secretary, Home, Punjab to find a way forward to put an end to the situation. Appropriate steps must be taken to prevent further loss/wastage of about eight thousand metric tonnes of food-grains lying stored in the facility of the petitioner's firm at Ferozepur, which a country like India can ill afford, the court in its order, June 18, 2021 said. The petitioner-firm has informed the court that on account of the approaching monsoon season, they are likely to incur heavy losses and damage to the food-grains lying stored in their facility.
