Order of the National Green Tribunal (Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata) in the matter of Krishan Chandra Santra & Others Vs Pollution Control Board, West Bengal & Others dated 17/06/2021.
The matter related to illegal construction and filling the construction material in a waterbody in Baruipara Paltagarh Panchayat which is connected to the Damodar Valley Corporation Canal. The applicants are farmers using the waterbody as a source of irrigation for their agricultural fields.
The NGT directed the West Bengal Pollution Control Board and the District Magistrate, Hooghly to ascertain damage caused to the water body and calculate the environmental compensation which has to be recovered from the polluters.
