A public interest petition was filed by Rohit Madan to seek the "constitution of a committee of eminent jurists, technical experts, management experts who can propose suggestions for taking all measures including any legislative amendments for following up on the promises made by the Union of India before the 2021 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held in Glasgow, UK (COP-26), so that the committee could lay down a road map for achieving the commitments made by the Indian Government before the UNFCCC."

Additional Solicitor General informed the court that the Union of India is taking all out measures on climate change and have formed several committees including the Prime Minister’s Council on Climate Change.

The SC directed a status report to be filed within four weeks.
