Ministry of Jal Shakti to furnish report on dredging from Assi Ghat to Raj Ghat, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh
The Ministry of Jal Shakti was directed by the NGT, to furnish a report on whether dredging taking place from Assi Ghat to Rajghat on the left bank of river Ganga was authorised by the ministry.
The Secretary, Ministry of Jal Shakti should furnish a factual report in this regard with details of policy on the subject with guidelines for proper utilization/disposal of dredged material. The report has to be furnished within two months.
The NGT order was in response to the joint committee report to the effect that no mining was taking place on the bank of river Ganga from Assi Ghat to Raj Ghat and only dredging had been done under the project of the Ministry of Jal Shakti. The Secretary, Ministry of Jal Shakti should furnish a factual report in this regard with details of policy on the subject with guidelines for proper utilization/disposal of dredged material. The report has to be furnished within two months.
