The CPCB report on two brick kilns operating in village Bamnoli, Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh, 23/11/2022

  • 23/11/2022

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in its report to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) said that two brick kilns are operating in village Bamnoli, Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh without zig zag technology and responsible for violating environmental laws, rules and regulations set up by the state and the central government.

Navbharat Brick Field and Shiv Brick Field are operating in violation of the Uttar Pradesh Brick Kilns Criteria Act. The brick kilns are causing air, water and soil pollution and which in turn is causing many health hazards.

The CPCB report stated that the Supreme Court through its orders has clearly mentioned that only those brick kilns will be allowed to operate which have valid consent to operate (CTO), production capacity mentioned in the CTO, based on zig zag and having adequate monitoring facilities.

The state pollution control boards are the regulatory agencies for ensuring the compliance of siting criteria and conditions laid down in the notification issued by the MoEF&CC dated January 22, 2022 for Emission Standards for Brick Kilns.

The SPCBs should be carrying out regular inspection of brick kilns for verifying compliance of the SC orders and taken appropriate action against the non-complying brick kilns.
