Status report filed by the Government of NCT of Delhi regarding measures to ensure rejuvenation of the Najafgarh jheel situated on the Delhi-Gurgaon border.

The monitoring of water quality is being done on a quarterly basis by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC). The Inter-Ministerial Expert Group formed by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change has prepared a draft report for conservation and rejuvenation of the Najafgarh jheel.

The current and historical water quality, data of Najafgarh jheel for all physical, chemical parameters, heavy metals and bacteriological parameter are being performed by the DPCC on regular intervals. MCD has identified six drains, however some minor drains under the jurisdiction of PWD may still be left. All the drains are monitored and desilted periodically.

The Wetland Authority of Delhi has constituted Najafgarh Wetlands Committee on July 19, 2022 under the chairmanship of the District Magistrate (South West district) with members from all stakeholder departments like MCD, PWD, Panchayat department, DJB). This puts in place a wetland assessment and monitoring system to guide effective management planning.

For the critically silted up area, a bathymetric survey has been carried out for the Najafgarh drain part of the Najafgarh jheel. The action for desilting of the drain area falling in Najafgarh jheel has been initiated.
