Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Anuj Sharma Vs State of Uttar Pradesh & Others dated 09/08/2023.
The grievance of the applicant is violation of siting criteria by the Nagar Nigam Ghaziabad in dumping municipal solid waste in violation of Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 in the city of Ghaziabad at Shahpur Road, Morta, Raj Nagar Extension, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
It was submitted that the said area is an institutional area wherein around 50 educational institutes are situated and DPS, School Raj Nagar Extension is situated around 500 meters away from the said dumping ground. The air strip of Air Force Station Hindan Air base is also situated just 8 kms from the said dumping ground. The dumping of solid waste at the place may cause serious health hazards to the citizens and imminent danger of birds hitting the planes and low visibility due to smoke in the season.
The NGT directed a joint committee comprising the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board and the Collector, Ghaziabad to look into the matter. The committee has to visit the place and submit the factual and action taken report within six weeks.
