Action taken on behalf of Mizoram regarding constructions within the Tlawng Hnar Reserved Forests
Action taken on behalf of Mizoram in the matter of Pi Vamramchhuangi Vs Union of India & Others dated 22/08/2023.
The matter related to constructions within the Tlawng Hnar Reserved Forests/ Tlawng Riverine Reserve Forest. The constructions included a mini sports complex, district park, impounding water recharge dam, six stone quarries in Zobawk and Lungpuizawl village, Lunglei.
The mini sports complex was constructed in July 2011 and no permission was obtained from the authorities and this contravened the Mizoram (Forests) Act, 1955. For the district park in Lunglei again no permission was obtained from the competent authority inside reserved forest and this contravened the Mizoram (Forests) Act, 1955. The same was the case with the impounding water recharge dam and Lungpuizawl village.
The Divisional Forest Officer, Lunglei has called for explanation from the concerned officers during whose tenure violation took place. Action on all violations have been taken up by the Environment, Forests & Climate Change Department of Aizawl, Mizoram.
