Order of the Supreme Court in the matter of The Indian Oil Corporation Limited Vs Shri Sant Dasganu Maharaj Shetkari Sangh Akolner dated 30/10/2023.
The matter related to groundwater pollution caused by leakages of petroleum storage tanks and pipelines installed by the Indian Oil Corporation and Bharat Petroleum Corporation.
An affidavit was filed on behalf of Maharashtra. With regards to laying of pipelines under Jal Jeevan Mission, it is stated that the work is under progress. However, it was not stated when the work was likely to be completed. The same was the case with village Akolner - the outer limit for completion of work has not been mentioned. The SC directed Maharashtra to file an updated affidavit by November 19, 2023.
