Performance audit on role of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) in the industrial development of Maharashtra
The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has flagged several issues in the functioning of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) in its report, highlighting unutilised industrial plots, systemic delays in implementation of land rates, undue concessions being granted to allottees, direct allotment of plots to ineligible allottees etc. The performance audit on the MIDC’s role in the industrial development of the state during the 2014-2021 period was presented in the Legislative Assembly on 20 December, 2023 by state Finance Minister. As per the report, out of the 3,284 industrial plot allottees at the Trans Thane Creek (TTC) area, 3,053 plots are lying unutilised. The MIDC had decided in June 2017 to implement a scheme in the TTC industrial area (IA) whereby allottees (including closed industries) were granted an opportunity to return excess/unutilised land. It was further directed to take action against allottees who did not participate in the scheme as per Section 42A of the MIDC Act.
