Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding pollution of Kestopur-Bagjola Khal/ Bagjola Canal, South Dum Dum Municipality, West Bengal, 18/01/2024
Order of the National Green Tribunal (Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata) in the matter of Tribunal on its own Motion Re.: Kestopur and Bagjola Canals Vs State of West Bengal & Others dated 18/01/2024.
The matter is related to pollution of Kestopur-Bagjola Khal/ Bagjola Canal. According to the applicant solid wastes of huge quantity are thrown in the canal and discharges of filthy water from innumerable pipelines/open drains are continuing there. No action appears to have been taken by the authorities with regard to the cleaning of the Kestopur-Bagjola Canal.
The court directed notices to be issued among others to the West Bengal Pollution Control Board, Department of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs and South Dum Dum Municipality. All the respondents have been directed to file their counter affidavits within four weeks.
