Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding illegal mining in river Kailash, Nakulia village, Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand, 05/02/2024
Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of News Item titled "Gramino ne SDM se Kailash Nadi mei avaidh khanan rokane kee maang kee" appearing in Hindustan dated 31.10.2023 dated 05/02/2024.
The application was registered suo-moto on the basis of a newspaper report which stated that illegal mining was taking place using JCB and pokeland machines in river Kailash, Nakulia village, Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand.
The NGT said that the report filed by the Additional District Magistrate, Udham Singh Nagar does not give complete details like the extent of illegal mining.
Thus, the court impleaded Regional Office, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Dehradun and gave directions to carry out the spot inspection and disclose the full details including geo-coordinates of the spot where the inspection in done and illegal mining is found, the number and size of pits/voids created on account of illegal mining and persons responsible for such illegal mining.
The report has to be filed one week before the next date of hearing, April 18, 2024.
