Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) report on the compliance of various provisions of the BMW Rules by each of the states/UTs.

The CPCB report recommended that state pollution control board's /pollution control committees should ensure authorization to all bedded and non-bedded health care facilities (HCF) like clinics, laboratories, research institutes as well as veterinary hospitals in a time bound manner. All SPCBs and PCCs should conduct gap analysis as per CPCB guidelines and ensure availability of adequate number of common bio-medical waste treatment facilities (CBWTF) to cover all districts of the state/UT in a time bound manner.

In addition, SPCBs/PCCs should restrict use of captive treatment facilities and deep burial pits. Use of captive treatment facilities and deep burial pits should be permitted only if necessary and should constructed as per standards given under Bio Medical Waste Management Rules (BMWM), 2016. These were some of the recommendations put forward by the CPCB in its report to the NGT.
