Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding concretization of river bed of Waldhuni river, Thane, Maharashtra, 12/11/2024
Order of the National Green Tribunal (Western Zone Bench, Pune) in the matter of Snehal Donde Vs State of Maharashtra & Others dated 12/11/2024.
The matter related to issue of concretization of river bed of Waldhuni river in front of Ambernath Shiv temple, district Thane, Maharashtra. According to the applicant, the activity is causing loss to the river biodiversity and complete environment. The government of Maharashtra has sanctioned Rs.107 crores to beautify the 963-year-old Lord Shiv temple complex in Ambernath. Prayer has been made that direction be issued to the respondents, particularly, the Chief Officer, Ambernath Municipal Council, Ambernath, district Thane to de-concretize the river bed of Waldhuni river and to restore the river to its original position. It was also prayed that environmental compensation be assessed for damaging the river bed of Waldhuni river.
The authorities Principal Secretary, District Collector, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board among others have been directed to submit their reply affidavits within four weeks.
