Status report on behalf of Amicus Curiae in the matter of Sanawar Vs State of Uttar Pradesh & Others.
A letter petition was registered Suo Moto by the NGT concerning the huge air pollution caused by emission of poisonous industrial gases and black smoke by various industrial units situated at district Muzaffar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh.
The tribunal after going through the seriousness of the issue, the NGT appointed Rahul Khurana as Amicus Curiae.
The Amicus Curiae visited 9 units on November 15, 2024. The court was informed that the area was having problems of ash emission into air from stack emissions. Smoke was coming out from many stacks which required to be identified. Two industries were found emitting dense black smoke. Strict monitoring be done of stacks of all Paper and Pulp Industries to ensure their efficient working with provision to stop emission of ash into air, the report said.
