Additional reply by Greater Mohali Area Development Authority in Original Application No 739 of 2023 in the matter of Environment Protection Society SAS Nagar & Others Vs Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change & Others, 28/11/2024.
The matter related to cutting of trees for widening of 3 roads.
The court was informed that as per the initial planning of GMADA 1651 number of trees were required to be felled. However, 306 trees were axed even before the filing of the application before NGT and 1345 more trees were proposed to be axed. The representation given by the Environment Society was duly considered by GMADA and replanning of these roads was done. As per the replanning, the total number of trees to be axed has now been reduced to 625 only. Thus, 409 trees have been saved as per new planning.
