Action taken report on behalf of the Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board (MPPCB) in Original Application No 71/2023 (CZ) in the matter of Kirti Kumar Sadashiv Bhatt Vs Narmada Water Resources & Others dated 29/11/2024.

The report was in compliance with the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order September 10, 2024. The matter related to discharge of untreated waste in river Narmada in Madhya Pradesh.

The MPPCB has taken action against the violating urban local bodies (ULBs) and also finalized the process of imposition of environment compensation. The report mentioned the urban local bodies against whom EC was imposed. They included Nagar Pallika Parishad, Naramadapuram against whom an EC of Rs 136 lakhs was imposed for violation of SWM Rules 2016 and sewage discharge. Nagar Parishad Nemawar, District Dewas was imposed EC of Rs 176 lakhs for violation of SWM Rules, 2016 and sewage discharge. In all EC was imposed on 12 urban local bodies and the total environment compensation imposed by the SPCB was Rs 17,22,00,000 (Seventeen crores twenty two lakhs).

In addition, as per the earlier report submitted by the SPCB, the EC levied on Nagar Pallika Parishad, district Dhar; Nagar Parishad, district Anuppur and Nagar Pallika Parishad, district Dindori had already been finalized.

Letter to respective District Collectors have been issued for initiating the process of recovery of the EC imposed on the concerned urban local bodies in terms of MP Land Revenue Code, 1959 stated the MPPCB.
