Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding restoration of Suka Paika canal, Cuttack, Odisha, 15/05/2025
Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Swarup Kumar Rath Vs Union of India & Others dated 15/05/2025.
Additional Government Advocate appearing for the state of Odisha stated that the work of restoration of Suka Paika canal is almost nearing completion and is expected to be completed by June 21, 2025. The bench of Justice B Amit Sthalekar directed Odisha to file the current status report with regard to completion of the restoration work by the next date of listing (August 28, 2025).
The river Suka-Paika also known as the dead river and a branch of river Mahanadi in Cuttack district became dead after its mouth was closed restricting its free flow in 1950s.
