Say yes or get jailed
Till about 15 days before the hearing, villagers had no information about it. Neither did they get copies of the project's environment impact assessment (EIA) document or its summary. On August 2, with the help of non-governmental organisations, gram panchayat Lothal and gram panchayat Raadi, both in the affected area, sent a letter to the Union ministry of environment and forests asking for the hearing to be postponed, held at least one month after they would get the EIA document
