QUOTES FROM COURT
The exchanges between the judges and the petitioners in the court on May 13, 1999, was heated, and at some times had an element of comic-irony. A few examples:
Government counsel: We need some breathing time (to implement the stricter emission norms).
The bench: There are already people suffering from breathing problems because of your actions.
Lawyer: I just want to make one sentence.
The bench: You can make one sentence or two sentences. But I will give only one sentence.
Lawyer: A lot of people have already booked cars. The June 1 deadline will cause a lot of problems to them also. Please advance the dates.
The bench: But is the health of the people of no concern?
Lawyer: There are a lot of difficulties in meeting the norms before June 1.
The bench: Once you are under pressure, you will work.
