Catch 'em young
What have been the achievements of independent India and how much further does the country need to go to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of her people? To commemorate the 50th year of India's independence, the foundation for Univer- sal Responsibility (fur), established by the Dalai Lama, and The Eye magazine, a Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture among Youth (spic macay) publication, are working on a collaborative project called India's Quest.
The initiative is directed towards students and will take seven broadly relevant themes like pluralism, education and environment to the campus. Planned under the project are seven special issues of The Eye magazine, an accompanying book of essays, a discussion video and a series of film screenings and discussions on campuses all over India.
The films, produced by fur and of 30 minutes each, will be a subjective foray into these issues and will present the Indian perspective on them and will seek to provoke discussion on contemporary dilemmas and portents for the future. Certain identified scholars and activists have contributed a brief outline on each of the themes and this will provide an initial brief to the film makers. These scholars and activists will travel to the campuses to interact with the students once the films are ready, and a 30 minute video of the ensuing discussions will be produced.
