Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding floating hotel in Tehri lake, Uttarakhand, 12/02/2024
Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of News item titled "Uttarakhand HC Licence expired why is floating hotel running?" appearing in the Times of India dated 07.01.2024 dated 12/02/2024.
An application was filed suo-motu on the basis of a news report published in Times of India, January 7, 2024. The news report revealed that a floating hotel in Tehri lake is operating for tourism through its license has expired and the said hotel and hut owners are causing pollution in river Ganga. As per the said news item, floating restaurants are serving non-vegetarian food and dumping waste in river Ganga.
The NGT opined that the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) should look into the matter and directed that NMCG should see if such an activity is permissible under River Ganga (Rejuvenation, Protection and Management) Authorities (Amendment) Order 2024 and take appropriate action. NMCG has been directed to examine the issue and submit the report before the NGT within two months.
