Southern Africa’s forests and people: investing in a sustainable future
On the occasion of the XIV World Forestry Congress, this publication from the FAO Subregional Office for Southern Africa supports countries in the region to present the best practices, challenges and opportunities in the forestry sector of Southern Africa. The forests of Southern Africa provide significant benefits in terms of timber and wood as well as non-wood forest products and an array of ecosystem services, not to mention supporting millions of livelihoods across the subregion. But the forests face increasing pressure from the negative impacts of climate change and massive agricultural expansion. The need to share best practices to overcome such challenges is becoming more important than ever.
