System of green clearances not working for environment and people and clearances not the impediment to growth, says CSE’s new study
This new study by Centre for Science and Environment finds unprecedented scale of clearances being given by the Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF) to industrial projects from 2007 till August 2011.
New assessment by Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) finds unprecedented scale of clearances being given by the ministry of environment to industrial projects in the last five years. Findings trash the allegation that environmental considerations are proving to be an impediment in India’s growth. “Are forest and environmental clearances the problems for growth? Or is it the other way around—are these a problem for environmental protection?” asks CSE director general Sunita Narain. Says present system of granting clearances clearly not working. Calls for better regulations and more effective monitoring.
