Bhopal, Feb 18: Forest Department has taken the decision to allow sale of forest produce grown on private land. This sale would be effected through Forest Committees. In the wake of this decision, farmers would be able to get better prices for their forest produce. Forest Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah has issued instructions to every forest range to implement this system this year. All the conservators of forests have been instructed to ensure implementation of this scheme and send the compliance report of the same within one month.
The dearth of wildlife officials has been a major drawback in enforcing wildlife regulations, Environment and Natural Resources Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said. There are only 3,000 odd wildlife officials to serve nearly one million hectares of forest in the country. The elephant population in Sri Lanka did not face any threat of extinction as its density has been increasing in recent times, he said. Steps have been taken to erect electrified fences under the Maga Neguma to ward off marauding elephants in an effort to eradicate the elephant-human conflict, the Minister said.

GURGAON/NEW DELHI: A complete tiger skeleton was recovered from a residential premises at Surat Nagar in Gurgaon on Monday afternoon following a combined raid by the Gurgaon police and officials of the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau. A senior official of the Bureau said: "The raid was carried out following a tip-off from a non-government organisation working in the field of wildlife conservation. We raided the residence and found a complete tiger skeleton and traps used by poachers to capture wild animals in the forest. The skeleton weighs over 10 kg.'

Hyderabad, July 4: The city task force police on Friday arrested two persons who were attempting to sell leopard skin in the city. B. Ram Reddy, 30 a native of Kurnool and N. Shiva Prasad, 35, a native of Prakasam district were arrested. Ram Reddy, a farmer trapped the leopards in his field located near Nallamala Forest.
