Fifth H1N1 death: 27-yr-old succumbs in RML hospital
A 27-year-old man from Delhi succumbed to the H1N1 virus at RML hospital on Wednesday, taking the death toll due to the virus to five in the national capital this year. Doctors said the patient, who was referred from a nursing home to RML hospital in the first week of February, had developed a lung infection. According to doctors at RML hospital, the man had been kept at the isolation ICU in the hospital for the last few days. "The patient had severe accompanying lung infection, which complicated matters. We had put him on strong antibiotics, in addition to the Tamiflu dose for the H1N1 infection. But he died of multi-organ failure on Wednesday," a doctor at the hospital said.

Govt to stop over the counter sale of 40 more drugs
Some 40 drugs will soon be notified under a new schedule, H1, of Drugs and Cosmetics Act to make it mandatory for chemists to maintain a register of their sales and retain a copy of the prescription. This will be in addition to the schedule H drugs which, too, can't be sold without prescription. Besides, packs of H1 drugs will carry a prominent warning in red stating that it is dangerous to take these drugs without doctor's prescription. The decision, which Central Drugs and Standards Control Organisation hopes will arrest the rising incidence of resistance to antibiotics in the country, was taken at the 62nd meeting of Drug Technical Advisory Board Wednesday.
