Hyderabad, Sept. 23: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the state government and the Hyderabad Metro Rail Corporation Limited on a miscellaneous petition filed against Metro Rail project. Dr C. Ramachandraiah and O.M. Debra, residents of the city, sought an interim direction to restrain the government and the HMRC from going ahead with the work.

The 32-km elevated second phase of the metro rail project which will connect Charkop and Mankhurd via Bandra will have 27 stations. After the state government okayed the project, the Centre accorded its in-principal approval to the line in February 2007. Two years ago, the cost of the project was pegged at Rs5,616 crore. In a shocking incident, a huge girder crushed a passing vehicle and seriously injured the driver, after it allegedly fell at a Metro construction site near the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital last week.
