Team of unknown persons is conducting unauthorised raids A group of persons, which claims to be working under the direction of a Standing Committee of Chennai Corporation Council, has emerged as an obstacle to the campaign against the trade of illegal plastic bags. These persons, claiming to represent the Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare of the council, have been allegedly visiting business units involved in the trade to ‘seize illegal plastic bags.’ However, they have been permitting the trade of below-40-micron plastic bags with ‘the permission of the Committee,’ allegedly after collecting money for the same.

High Court seeks status report on trash dumping in lake
The High Court of Karnataka has directed the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to submit the status report on illegal dumping of debris and waste in Subramanyapura Lake in Uttarahalli of Bangalore South. Hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) on the garbage crisis in the City on December 13, the Division Bench of Justice N Kumar and B V Nagarathna took note of the Deccan Herald report on illegal dumping of debris and garbage in the lake.

Waste dumped at Hospicio
Hospicio bio-medical waste management once again came under scanner after waste stacked in plastic bags was found dumped within the hospital premises on Sunday. The hospital management has been resorting to the deep burial method to dispose of the bio-medical waste generated in this government district hospital. PONDA: Environment Minister Alina Saldanha has urged people to act responsibly to solve the growing garbage problem in the State. She was addressing a function at the Goa Vidhyaprasarak Mandal’s (GVM) plastic-free campaign at Ponda on Thursday.
