THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Central team, which conducted a survey on encroachments in Munnar, has urged the State Government to declare 17,922 acres of land in KDH village as Forest Land. The team observed that there was no hurdle in proclaiming this land as forest land.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government has issued guidelines on flushing of waste from toilets and soak pits into public drains, water bodies and water resources. The guidelines, prepared on the basis of Section 340 of the Kerala Municipal Act, 1994, strictly prohibits the flushing of waste water into public areas and water resources.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) has issued environmental clearance for the phase-III expansion project of Technopark. The Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of the MoEF, in its 86th meeting held in New Delhi, recommended granting Environmental Clearance to the project, presented by a team led by K V Rajendran, GM, Technopark, said a release.
KOCHI: To give an uplift to the existing sewerage system, the Kochi Corporation has come up with a plan to introduce an underground sewage project in the city. The objective of the project is to ensure improvement in urban hygiene and sanitation that will in turn improve public health.
KOCHI: The Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), here, will begin the month-long National Marine Fisheries Census 2010 from April 16 in all maritime states of the country. The exercise includes collecting information about marine fishermen, their crafts and gears, socioeconomic profile, demographic features and behavioural parameters, said a statement.

KOCHI: The managers of non-degradable waste in the city are a relieved lot as the Refuse- Derived Fuel (RDF) plant at Brahmapuram is all set to open on April 16. Once the RDF plant becomes operational, the overall efficiency of the Brahmapuram solid-waste plant will increase considerably. This will help reduce the volume of waste materials that are otherwise used as landfill.
NEDUMBASSERY: A unique project of cultivating medicinal plants on idle land, including on the sides of the 4-km runway of Cochin International Airport, was inaugurated by Industries Minister Elamaram Kareem here on Monday.
