Centre mulls NRHM clone for urban poor
Union Health Ministry is mulling over a proposal to launch a National Urban Health Mission (NUHM), on the lines of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), to cater to the requirements of urban poor in all the 640 cities across the country by facilitating “equitable access to available health facilities.”

Fails to add additional capacity to rural health
BHUBANESWAR: Notwithstanding the flow of funds under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), the health scenario of the State is not inspiring. A cursory glance between the pre and post NRHM status shows the faultlines. In March 2005, the total shortfall of female health workers/ANMs at the sub- centres and primary health centres (PHCs) was over 7,200.

Govt nod for health care plan
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs today approved the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS). It sanctioned an outlay of Rs 1230.90 crore for implementation of its various components during the remaining period of the 11th plan on a cost sharing basis between the Centre and the states at the rate of 80:20.

Mega plan to prevent lifestyle diseases cleared

NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet's Committee on Economic Affairs on Thursday approved the ambitious National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS) for implementation during the remaining period of 11th Five-Year Plan, at an estimated outlay of Rs.1,230.90 crore.

KOLKATA, 29 JUNE: A report published by the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) has revealed that the state government has no separate programme for malnourished children and there is also a lack of monitoring agency to supervise the quality of food that is being provided by the aganwandi workers to the mothers of these malnourished children.

Telemedicine service to be launched in ten dists
BERHAMPUR: In a bid to provide health service at doorsteps, measures have been initiated to provide telemedicine service in 10 districts. The service is being provided at MKCG Medical for last six years, but it was confined only to doctors who are using it to consult experts in the country and outside.

Sanitary napkin scheme for rural poor to roll out soon
To boost female health in rural India, the Union Health Ministry has okayed a scheme to provide sanitary napkins at “highly subsidised” rates to Below Poverty Line (BPL) girls in the age group of 10 years to 19 years.
The scheme will be rolled out in 150 districts out of the total 600 districts that will be covered under Phase I.
