Swaminathan training for SSC students
Nellore, March 10: M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, Chennai, will be conducting a Vocation Training programme for students of Class X between May 3 and 29, 2010.
Students will be exposed to a variety of topics in the broad area of biotechnology and biodiversity conservation during the four weeks programme which is a residential workshop.

Ministry of Environment and Forests clarifies
KOCHI: Setting to rest the controversy over the October 26, 2009, notification which ‘removed 190 plants from the protection of the Biodiversity Act-2002,’ the Ministry of Environment and Forests has come out with a clarification that has assuaged the worries of environmentalists.

Haat Kali sacred grove, Central Himalaya, Uttarakhand
Sacred groves are (small or large) patches of vegetation of varying sizes, conserved on the basis of the religious beliefs of the community. In India 13,720 sacred groves have been identified from 19 states and named differently in various parts of India as Law lyngdhoh in Meghalaya, Kovil Kadu in Kanyakumari, Dev Bhumi in Uttarakhand, etc.
