Brutang Irrigation Project gets forest clearance
Bhubaneswar: The ministry of environment and forests (MoEF) on Tuesday accorded the Stage I forest clearance to the Brutang Irrigation Project in Nayagarh district.
The Odisha government on March 18 had submitted a proposal to obtain MoEF’s prior approval for diversion of 1,524.17 hectare of forestland for construction of the project.

Orissa to move SC against MoEF green signal to Polavaram project
The Orissa government would soon move the Supreme Court, seeking scrapping of the clearance granted by the Ministry of Environment and Forests to the multi-purpose Polavaram irrigation project on Godavari river in Andhra Pradesh, according to senior state officials.

Refinery closed after workers shut down power plant

VEDANTA Resources’ alumina refinery and power plant at Lanjigarh, in Orissa, was forced to stop operations on Tuesday after a mob of around 2,000 contract workers vandalised the plant. Vedanta Alumina gets violation notice
THE environment ministry has issued environmental violation notice to Anil Agarwal-promoted Vedanta Alumina’s Lanjigarh refinery.
Violations include failure to adhere to environment protection norms, unauthorised expansion of capacity to 6 million tonnes and sourcing of bauxite from illegal mines. The company has time till September 14 to submit its reply.
