The Cuncolim Municipal Council has asked for funds from the Director of Municipal Administration to set up a one ton garbage plant and a plastic shredder to tackle waste generated in the town. The Council has also resolved to invite Expression of Interest from prospective companies to set up the plant and machinery on the land acquired at the Cuncolim Industrial Estate.
Union Minister for Environment Jairam Ramesh will visit Goa July-end regarding CRZ issue. According to information received here, Ramesh will visit Goa as part of his tour to coastal states affected by CRZ regulations.
Faced with intense opposition, the Sanguem Municipal Council (SMC) on Thursday scrapped the tender process for resuming work on the controversial garbage treatment plant at Gunjimoll-Sanguem. It was a victory for residents of Marangan, Mugoli, Taripanto, Nondurlem and nearby areas, as they stood united at the municipal office and prevented contractors from filling in the tender forms.

The rainfall in the month of July this year is above normal in Goa, according to the Meteorological Department. Till date the State has received 1443.5mm of rainfall which is quite high compared to the predicted normal rainfall of 1110.6mm.
The State Government has prepared master plans for four rivers of the State to take care of future water deficiency. Water storage schemes would be implemented for Mandovi, Zuari, Talpona and Galgibag rivers with which, the water deficiency till 2050 would be taken care of.
The Congress Party has decided to take up a massive tree plantation programme in the State. Congress workers would do tree plantation in 42 panchayats and eight municipal areas in which around 50000 saplings would be planted during this drive, declared Congress State President, Subhash Shirodkar at a press conference on Wednesday here. The programme would continue till August 15, he said.
