FinCom sets Rs 5K cr for ecology-based projects
The 13th Finance Commission (TFC) has allocated Rs 5,000 crores as forest grant to support ecology-based projects initiated by of ministry of forests and environment (MF&E).
Another Rs 2,063 crores have been allocated to support for state-specific projects.

Conservation of Ousteri Lake, Puducherry
The Ousteri Lake is the most important fresh-water lake of Puducherry region. It is also one of the most important wetlands of Asia. The lake is situated near Oussudu village and is part of both Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. As per the Government of Puducherry records, the total water spread of the lake, when full after the monsoons, is about 390 ha.

This wetland has birds flocking to it again
LUCKNOW: The once ailing Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary has seen a turnaround for sure. Thanks to the abundant water at the place, birds are still flocking to the wetland. While the flocks were retreating by February last year, this time they show no signs of it.

State has no policy to save wetlands
Sundernagar: In the absence of any clear-cut policy thousands of water bodies in the hill state are either highly polluted or losing its character.
The lack of awareness on the subject is further proving fatal, as it has been observed that at village-level water bodies are being destroyed, as residents consider them as unproductive and fill it with debris.

World Wetland Day celebrated
CHENNAI: Slide shows, distribution of pamphlets and awareness programmes marked the World Wetland Day celebrations in the city on Tuesday.
Officials of the Kancheepuram Forest Division distributed pamphlets with the help of student volunteers from various city colleges near the Velachery bridge and at the Pallikaranai junction of the Thoraipakkam – Pallavaram Radial Road.
