The meeting also resolved to seek an appointment with the Chief Minister.
With the Coimbatore Corporation Council recently passing a resolution to initiate criminal action against those obstructing development works by opposing tree cutting, axing of trees on Chellappa Gounder Street in Kattoor resumed on Sunday. However, the contractor felled only two trees and not the ones in dispute as the trees marked for axing were yet to be inspected.

The promotion of sustainable alternate energy sources, fuels other than oil and energy-efficient equipment are among strategies initiated in the country to achieve energy security, P. Sivakumar, Director, Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE), said on Thursday. With nearly 1,000 MW installed during the last 12 months, the State now has nearly 6,900 MW installed capacity of wind energy. The evening generation (6.55 p.m.) was 273 MW on April 25, on April 18 it was 737 MW and on April 22 it was 420 MW. The morning (7.50 a.m.) generation on April 26 was nil, 165 MW on April 19, and 237 MW on April 23.
Twelve illegal dyeing units were demolished in a drive that was conducted by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) in and around Komarapalayam town in Tiruchengode Taluk on Thursday. The drive was conducted at Thaneerpanthalkadu, Kotaimedu, Eswari Nagar, Cheran Nagar and Kamaraj Nagar. District Environmental Engineer (DEE) K. Ponnusamy told The Hindu that the Corporation had asked a designing company to prepare the design in such a way that the front portion of the multi-level car parking building was a shopping complex and the rear parking lot. The design would be applicable to all the parking lots in the city.
Chennai Corporation has planned to demarcate three new 100-acre sites on the outskirts for the city's solid waste management. The district administrations of the adjoining districts, including Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur, have kicked off their search for the right spot for pieces of land suitable for solid waste management based on instructions from the government.
