Total suspended particulate matter (TSPM) and respiratory particulate matter (PM10) are the main air pollutants in ambient air of opencast coal projects (OCPs). The present paper focuses on the ambeint air quality analysis for the 5 opencast coal projects scattered around Wardha Valley, namely Durgapur, Padampur, Gughus, Sasti, Hindustan Lalpet Mines of Western Coalfields Limited (WCL). The paper examines the ambient air quality status around the opencast coal projects and investigates into the air quality dispersion modeling which has been attempted using fugitive dust model (FDM) developed by United States Environment Protection Agency (USEPA).
